West Harbour Best from Social Perspective: Hamilton Roundtable for Poverty Reduction

Posted August 06, 2010

An analysis issued by the Hamilton Roundtable for Poverty Reduction concludes that the "West Harbour location provides a greater number of opportunities to promote social inclusion. However, inclusion hinges on more than location. It is also dependent on the accessibility of the stadium itself – to the public, to schools, to persons with disabilities - and to access jobs."

To reach their conclusion, the analysis looked at six factors and evaluated the two sites based on each:

Factor
Best Location
Social inclusion
West Harbour
Proximity to schools
West Harbour
Proximity to other recreational infrastructure
Either
Accessibility of location via various forms of transportation

The report points out that "Social inclusion has become an established best practice among international multi-sport events, including the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games, Vancouver 2010 Olympics, and London 2012 Olympics."
